Artists are the lifeblood of the Chalk It Up Festival! 

The Chalk It Up! Chalk Art & Music Festival has been held for three days over Labor Day Weekend.  This festival is a celebration of artists and the arts, with live music, local craft and food vendors, and artists creating murals out of chalk on the sidewalk around the perimeter of the park.  Since 1991 this festival has remained FREE for the community, thanks to sponsors, donors, and volunteers - especially the VOLUNTEER ARTISTS!

On Saturday morning of Labor Day Weekend, artists begin work on their Chalk Art Murals around the perimeter of Fremont Park in Midtown, Sacramento, and will continue working on their art throughout the weekend until they are finished.  

Each Chalk Art Mural is sponsored, either by by the artists, community members or families, schools and non-profit organizations, or for-profit businesses.  These are our Sidewalk Chalk Square Sponsors, the Patrons of our art form, and it is their sponsorship donations that have helped keep the Chalk It Up Festival free for the public since 1991.  There is NO FEE to the artists to participate, unless they choose to be their own sponsor.

Artists receive a "starter kit" including a 24-pack of assorted color chalk pastels, 10 sticks of the premium buttery artists' chalk made by Eternity Arts, aka "That Thicc Chalk," and more.  More information for artists can be found on our website: https://chalkitup.org/festival/artists/

Artists, we can match you with a  Sidewalk Chalk Square Sponsor, you can recruit your favorite local business or community organization to sponsor your artwork, or you can pay to be your own sponsor.
